Company Profile
I am the founder Director of Nandini Consultancy Centre , a firm of chemical engineers and chemical business consultants, based at Chennai and Singapore. Other co director in Nandini Consultancy Group is Mr. Swaminathan Venkataraman, a chemical engineer and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabd with over fifteen years of experience in industrial management practices and supply chain functions in Europe and Singapore. Mr. Swaminathan Venkataraman presently operates from Singapore office.
Nandini Consultancy Centre was founded in 1990 and provide services to several leading chemical manufacturers and research bodies in India and other parts of the world.
Nandini Consultancy provides services in functions relating to market research, technology appraisal , identification of project opportunities and corporate planning.
I am also Chief Editor of Nandini Chemical Journal, an online monthly journal that contains investigative and research articles on several aspects of chemical and allied industries in the Indian and global context.
My Role
Our organisation Nandini Consultancy Centre carries out in depth, investigative and customised studies. Obviously, in such studies and findings, there have to be an element of subjective judgement of the scenario that has to be analysed with clarity and based on data .
Nandini Consultancy Centre maintains an extensive data base on various aspects of chemical and allied industries, focussed on global scenario which are continuously updated.
Since several of the published data themselves are sometimes incomplete and sometimes wrong, enormous expertise is required in assessing such data and then arriving at conclusions and recommendations, which have to be based on primary research. Nandini Consultancy carries out such primary research amongst cross section of producers, consumers , trading houses etc. globally.
It is possible that in conducting such studies and providing recommendations, there could be difference of view between people. Extreme caution and high level of understanding of the scenario on the part of the people conducting such studies is important , so that the rationale can be logically presented. This sort of work is essentially a team work involving people from different specialisation.
My way of motivating troops
The work content in the type of consultancy functions that Nandini Consultancy executes call for dedicated team of professionals , with high level of interest in such studies. The best motivation given to such personnel is by providing them opportunities to work in challenging areas of study and ensuring that they are heard while finalising the findings and conclusions.
The strategy is to provide them maximum possible job satisfaction, so that they would remain motivated.
Way to start from scratch again
Like individuals in life, the companies also have to grow , learn and fine tune their work in course of time . The reputation that has been built amongst the clients around the world is high, that is proved by the repeated assignments from the same organisations.
In case I have to rebuild the company from scratch all over again, I will really not do anything substantially different from what I have already done. May be, I would try to move faster in expanding the base of the organisation , which of course depends on several external factors too.
Most critical decision
The most critical decision that I had to take relates to succession management. This has been thought about for quite some time and now the co director Mr. Swaminathan Venkataraman who is a Chemical engineer and MBA has fitted the slot due to his professional attitude, expertise and exposure to international practices.
For any consultancy organisation that carries research and investigative functions, succession management has to be a critical decision. I think that this issue has been attended to with foresight and vision.
Advice to young entrepreneurs
The entrepreneurs have to believe in step wise and stage wise growth over a period of time, without jumping the steps.
It would always be ideal to become an entrepreneur in the age of around thirty five after gaining sort of experience for around ten years in various functions. Such young entrepreneurs will have adequate time and energy to experiment with their ideas and develop a unique way in their functions in tune with their vision and style.
Further, it is possible that the quality of entrepreneurship may not be same in all persons. Therefore, a careful self analysis is vitally needed. Further, such entrepreneurs should ensure that the spouse shares the enthusiasm and give active support in the period of stress and strain that an entrepreneur would inevitably undergo.
Key thoughts about Entrepreneurship
It is very important that any entrepreneur should have a social and national vision apart from the objective of managing his organisation. The person should elegantly integrate his personal needs , the need of the organisation and the need of the society at large , so that the organisation will remain relevant all the time.
